Marc Doyle, Education Profile

What is your education to date?
I completed my Leaving Certificate. I then went on to study Computer Science and Software Engineering at NUI Maynooth. I completed that course in 2005.

What subjects did you take in school and how have these influenced your career path?
I chose Construction Studies, Tech Drawing, French and Physics for my Leaving Cert subjects. My favourite subject however was Maths. In IT a lot of effort is spent in problem solving. Maths and Tech Drawing really helped me develop those skills. I was happy with my subject choice in school.

Have you undertaken, or do you plan to undertake any further training as part of your job?
I've completed some Microsoft Certifications as part of my job and I am undergoing SAP training on a constant basis. You are constantly learning and there are constantly courses and certifications available. IT is a fast paced changing environment, Training is a must to keep you in touch.

What aspects of your education have proven most important for your job?
My third and final year projects in college really taught me how to undertake an IT project from start to finish. This was very important to me in my current role. The courses in college taught me the skills, it was the projects that taught me how to apply them.
