Billy Condon, Education Profile

What subjects did you take in school and how have these influenced your career path?
Subjects in school: Physics, Higher Maths, (handy, but not vital, if you wish to pursue a degree - you can still do a cert or dipolma with pass maths), Agricultural Science, French (a language is a must if you wish to attend most universities).

Advice is to choose courses based on the subjects you like, don't choose a course just because you are told to do a certain course in college. Pick subjects you like and are good at and then make a career choice based on that.

What is your education to date?
Leaving Cert, 2001.
Graduated with Electric Engineering,  University College Cork in 2005. Graduated with Masters in Sustainable Energy 2007.
Joined ESB Customer Supply as a Graduate Engineer in September 2006.

What aspects of your education have proven most important for your job?
Important Education: Maths, Physics (in school), and Power Engineering in college.

But most importantly, learning to work well and get on with others in vital, having good social skills is just as important as being good technically.

Have you undertaken, or do you plan to undertake any further training as part of your job?
Yes,  as I said already, ESB fully promotes my development and allows me to choose any course I want that is useful to developing my career. I have done a course on advanced excel, finacial training for engineers and also other courses on the new electricity market. I also did a development course and a project on Energy Efficiency as part of my development.
